The Thaninthayi Division is located in the south of Myanmar, to the north is Mon State, but much of the division is bordered with Thailand on one side and the Andaman Sea on the other. Dawei is the capital of the division and it has other important cities such as Myeik and Kawthaung. The Thaninthayi division boasts beautiful weather, as well as the Mergui Archipelago, which is “the next big thing” from a tourism perspective. Thaninthayi division also has a lot of natural resources that are used for mining, such as jewels and pearls, and the expanse of coast means that fishing is a very prominent industry, and much of their seafood is exported to Thailand, which indicates opportunities in the trading/ distribution/ import/ export industry. Adding to these opportunities, there is a project underway called the Dawei Port which will connect Indochina to the Andaman Sea and Indian Ocean, creating 65000 new jobs. These jobs will be over a multitude of industries and functions, such as logistics/ transport, engineering/ technical, and there will be a huge need for skilled trade/ construction workers.

Myanmar as a whole is going through an unprecedented time of economic change now that it has opened up, and there is an abundance of foreign investment coming in. At the forefront of this change is the Thaninthayi Division as not only do they have the port project, but the tourism/ travel agency industry is flourishing (to say the least), especially in Dawei and the Dawei Peninsula (a beautiful, basically untouched peninsula of pristine beaches). This provides opportunities for those in a whole spectrum of services, such as food/ beverage/ catering, and other hospitality related jobs such as driver/ security/ cleaning. As the tourism keeps on picking up there will also be a need for other services for people on vacation such as hair/ nails and beauty. There really is no limit. Also, as the infrastructure in the Thaninthayi division is poor, there is a need for more infrastructure projects on the roads especially, meaning that civil engineers and project managers are in high demand.
